Bruce Trail

Scenario:
“An Ontario hiker has just completed a three-hour hike along this trail. At a number of picturesque locations, the hiker stopped to take photographs. The digital camera recorded the time each photograph was taken. The hiker wants to use these recorded times to pinpoint the locations on a map for a hiking club’s website. Over the three-hour period the hiker travelled nine kilometres and took 5 photographs. The hiker left the trailhead at 9:00 a.m. and took photographs at the following times:


Photograph 1 9:15 a.m.
• Photograph 2 9:20 a.m.
• Photograph 3 10:25 a.m.
• Photograph 4 11:20 a.m.
• Photograph 5 11:56 a.m.


Task:
“How far is each photograph location from the trailhead, assuming the hiker walked at a steady pace?”

  1. What I would do is go to the first picture find how far away it is from the trailhead. then go to the next picture and find the result from that 1st picture to that 2nd picture. then add the1st picture's time in between with the 2nd picture to get the the answer to the 2nd picture then do that till you're finished.

  2. picture one was 5 mins then go to the next pic see how far it was then, keep doing the pattern.

  3. i would take a first picture on the trailhead and then take one more picture and find the result from the 1 one and the 2 one add them all you get the 2 picture and do it in tell you are done it

    2. I agree with you Almond. I would add my 2 answers together to get picture number two's answer. But remember that you don't get the option of were the pictures are taken.

The first photograph was taken 15 minutes away from the starting line, and the second photo was taken 20 minutes away so two photos were taken in 20 minutes. 1:25 minutes and the fourth photo was taken in 2:20 minutes so he would almost be done his hike. The fourth picture would be taken at 3:00.

  12. By: Kevin and Almond we know that he left the trail head at 9:00am and that he took the first picture at 9:15am and that is 15 min later. And he took the second picture at 9:20am and which is 5:mins later. The third picture was at 10:25 witch is 65 mins later. The 4th picture was taken in 11:20am which is 55mins later.The 5th picture was at 11:56am which is 36mins later. and mif you add up all of the mins you will get the answer of 3 hours

  14. I think 9:15 to 9:20 is 5 mins and then 9:20 to 10:25 is 65 mins. Then 10:25 to 11:20 is 55 mins then 11:20 to 11:56 is 36 mins thats how you get 3 hours.
